A compact, cinematic abandoned spaceship interior built in Unreal Engine

This project marked my first hands-on experience with Unreal Engine, developed during the Introduction to Unreal Design Tools module. Tasked with building an environment within specific dimensional constraints, I designed a dark, atmospheric abandoned spaceship inspired by the mechanical realism of Space Engineers and the unsettling, cinematic tone of The Evil Within. My role focused on environmental layout, asset reuse, and mood-driven design.

Key Design Highlights

  • Constrained Spatial Design – The level was built within a predefined space limit, requiring thoughtful scaling, layout planning, and object placement.
  • Atmosphere & Theme – Combined gritty industrial detail with horror-inspired lighting and mood, evoking feelings of isolation and mystery.
  • Efficient Asset Usage – Reused a limited set of base assets by altering their textures, scale, and transforms, allowing them to represent multiple unique components of the ship.
  • Visual Density with Minimal Resources – Focused on maximizing perceived detail and functionality using minimal meshes, balancing visual complexity and performance.
  • Blockmesh Execution – Many assets were customized at the blockmesh stage to fit diverse structural roles, despite a limited understanding of optimization tools at the time.
