Rougelike Adventure Project – Combat & Enemy AI Design

A wave-based roguelike inspired by Crab Champions, releasing on Steam (October 2025)

This was my team’s final capstone project, an official game production built in Unreal Engine and slated for release on Steam. My primary role focused on documenting and designing the core gameplay systems, from the weapon framework to enemy AI behavior. I collaborated closely with system designers and programmers to balance combat pacing, attack patterns, and overall player experience.

This was my team’s final capstone project, an official game production built in Unreal Engine and slated for release on Steam. My primary role focused on documenting and designing the core gameplay systems, from the weapon framework to enemy AI behavior. I collaborated closely with system designers and programmers to balance combat pacing, attack patterns, and overall player experience.

Key Design Highlights

    • Weapon System – Designed and implemented a fully functional shooting system, inspired by real-world mechanics, supporting multiple weapon types.

    • Enemy AI Design – Created four unique enemy archetypes, including:
      Close-range boar with aggressive melee patterns.
      Mid-range turtle that forces spacing and tactical movement.
      • A surprise enemy and a boss encounter (kept unrevealed pre-release).

    • Combat Balance – Tuned enemy attack behaviors, randomized patterns, and weapon feedback to achieve a fluid, replayable combat loop.

    Documentation & Workflow – Produced comprehensive gameplay design documentation, system flowcharts, and AI behavior references for the team.

Results
